tickDecisioning: What Vouchers and Gift Experiences you will sell

Plan for creating vouchers and gift experiences according to the products and services that are:

  • Most popular for your business (Sell in the highest volumes)
  • Return the highest profit. (Make your business the most profit per unit sold)

It is optimal to create vouchers and gift experiences aligned to these products/services because sales of these will drive the highest number of new customers, and profit. The easiest way to do this is to simply list your products and services according to profit per sale and quantities sold per year.

This exercise will give you clear pointers toward the vouchers you should create.

eg. You may sell Afternoon Teas or Wine Tasting experiences and sell these for $60 -$200. Your records may show that you sell 3,000 units per year, and you know that the demographic from your customer database who buy these experiences is wide.

These factors make these products/services strong candidates for selling as discounted Black Friday voucher experiences. So now you can simply clone the Black Friday voucher type that matches your needs closest and edit it to your requirements.

NB: Discounting your voucher and gift experiences significantly (eg. 40-50%) may be a valid strategy to leverage high sales volumes. This will of course erode your profit margins and in many cases result in a “loss-leader” sales approach.

However – if every voucher sale creates a new cardholder, and you provide each cardholder with a discount when using their card (say 10%), then although the sales campaign itself may incur a short-term loss, this strategy will result in very significant new customer acquisition and retention performance, which in the medium and long term is extremely powerful and revenue beneficial.

In this example, the newly acquired customers are cardholders who will go on to create additional new cardholders through their discounted card use. In short – you are using high-volume Black Friday sales as a strategy to acquire new customers in volume and retain them.

Keep in mind your low demand periods and your profit margins when deciding on your campaigns.
